2013

Date: July 22-26, 2013
Inspiration: Founding of Kyiv, Ukraine
Highlights: Afternoon fieldtrip to Ukraine; individual life-size avatars; mixed martial arts Ukrainian dance; beeswax jewelry; singing & dancing with Canada’s ZIRKA Band

Held from July 22-26, 2013 in Ottawa, Canada, “Kyivan Avatars” tells the original Pokrova story of Luke, a young boy from a future millennia who meets by chance, Artem, a boy from Kyivan Rus’, at Canada’s Museum of Aviation and Space.  The boys set off on an amazing adventure in 10th century Kyiv to find a secret amulet that will transport Luke back to his home, and save Artem’s sister from harm.

In 2013, Pokrova Camp celebrated its first decade, featuring a week long set of events.  Camp, master classes, public exhibition & concert – with a special Zabava featuring ZIRKA, one of Canada’s top Ukrainian bands.

Our major partner was the Embassy of Ukraine in Canada.

44 children from Canada and the United States danced, sang, drew, created and traveled to Ukraine to experience Kyivan Rus’.

Pokrova Camp’s Honourary patron was the Ambassador of Ukraine to Canada, Vadym Prystaiko.
