Pokrova Ukrainian Arts Network invited award-winning Ukrainian Canadian author, Marsha Forchuk Skrypuch, to Ottawa, Canada, for a 2009 book tour with the Ukrainian community. Two events were held in partnership with the Embassy of Ukraine in Canada, and the Lesya Ukrainka and Ridna Shkola Ukrainian schools.
The tour was co-sponsored with the Writer’s Union of Canada, the Lesya Ukrainka Ukrainian School, and Ridna Shkola Ukrainian School.
During the evening of May 29, 2009, a public reading and discussion was held with the author at the Embassy of Ukraine in Ottawa. Ukarine’s Ambassador to Canada, Ihor Ostash introduced Marsha to the audience. The author talked about the challenges of writing, particularly about difficult and painful stories, such as the Holodomor.
The morning of May 30, 2009, Lesya Ukrainka and Ridna Shkola Ukrainian school students welcomed the author for a reading and conversation about story-telling. Holding various books written by Marsha, the children asked questions and listened to her describe how she finds an idea and turns it into a story.
