Highlights: moving, sanding, scraping, preparing, priming, designing, decorating & painting an upright piano with the motifs, symbols & colours of a Hutzul Malanka Magic experience.

Ottawa Chamber Music Society (Chamberfest) partnered with Pianos in the Park offering Pokrova Camp 2016 the chance to create a uniquely decorated donated piano with the magical theme of “Malanka”. Once finished, the piano would tour Ottawa with the chamber trio Amarok Ensemble of Toronto, Ontario, bringing live music to public green and urban spaces to help increase access to music for Canadians.

Captured by documentary photographer Chrystia Chudczak below, the images tell the story of a well-loved instrument turned into a celebration of art and music through the hard work and dedication of many hands.
